Committed to sustainable, meaningful investments in all Texas students! We represent school districts that send local tax dollars to the State through recapture

Today we're testifying on school safety bills in the House. We appreciate the effort to put more funding into protecting students and school staff. It's also important that districts have discretion to use those dollars to best meet local safety needs. #txlege #txed

While we're concerned about the $8.2 billion reduction in state funding for public ed in SB 30 due to higher-than-expected collections in local property taxes, we're grateful House Appropriations increased the bill's investment in school safety from $600M to $1.6B. #txlege #txed

ESAs and other forms of vouchers take dollars away from local schools run by elected school boards and give them to private schools that aren't transparent in their use of those dollars and aren't accountable for student performance. https://txsc.org/private-school-vouchers/ #txlege #txed

We're testifying in House Appropriations on SB 30. Due to higher-than-projected value growth & recapture, SB 30 cuts $8.2 BILLION in state education funding instead of keeping those dollars in public schools to support kids & teachers. #txlege #txed

On Monday we testified in House Ways & Means on HB2, the House property-tax relief bill. We support property-tax relief, which lowers recapture. But the amount of money spent on tax cuts in this bill will make it much more difficult to invest in Texas students. #txlege #txed
