Following an extensive search, the Texas School Coalition (TSC) today announced the selection of Christy Rome as its new executive director.
Rome is director of intergovernmental relations for the Austin Independent School District and has represented the Austin district as a member of TSC.
“With experience at both the state and school district levels, Christy is well suited for this role. In addition to beginning her career as a classroom teacher, Christy has most recently
served as Austin ISD’s director of intergovernmental relations since 2007,” said TSC President Kevin Brown, who is superintendent of the Alamo Heights Independent School
District in San Antonio.
“Her experience at the state level includes working within the Governmental Relations Division of the Texas Education Agency and serving on the staff of the Senate
Committee on Education, working directly for Senator Florence Shapiro. Christy already as a great working relationship with all of us associated with the Texas School Coalition
and we know our organization will continue to grow under her leadership,” Brown said.
Regarding her appointment as TSC executive director, Rome said, “I am so impressed by the momentum of this organization and I am delighted to step into this new role to build on that success. This is a critical time for school districts in Texas and together we can make sure our voices are heard to the benefit of our students and communities.”
Rome will continue in her current role at Austin ISD through April, transitioning to her new role with the Coalition in May.
